Golden Dragon
Painting
Competition
History
The Golden Dragon Painting Competition was originally set up
as the annual end of year event for the Dragonplayers Gamming Club in
Gympie. The first Golden Dragon, held in December 1996, set the stage for
what was to become a separate yearly event.
The second Golden Dragon
held the following year saw a departure from the Dragonplayers organization.
The event was held as a separate event, with the assistance of Dragonplayers to
supply scenery and gamming table tops.
In 1998 the event was
held with the association and sponsorship of Games Workshop, Gympie Toyworld and
Dragonplayers Gympie. It also saw a greater number of entries from outside
of Gympie, with more than half of the entries coming from areas up to 200 km
away.
Golden Dragon 2000 will see greater departure from tradition. Due to the hectic time of year
in December it was decided to move the Golden Dragon to Easter, or more specifically the weekend after
Easter.
Also the Golden Dragon will have its first major move in its years. The
2000 Golden Dragon is currently booked to occur at the Gympie RSL in their
functions room. This will provide new roomier facilities for the Golden
dragon, taking us into the new millennium.
